North American Summer School in Logic, Language, and Information

NASSLLI 2027

Hosted by the Department of Philosophy at Kansas State University, June 21–25, 2027, in Manhattan, Kansas, in the Flint Hills of northeastern Kansas.

About NASSLLI

NASSLLI courses are aimed at an interdisciplinary audience of advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars in mathematics, computer science, philosophy, cognitive science, linguistics, and cognate fields. Courses are encouraged to cross boundaries between disciplines — the purpose of the school, carried as much by its collegial, community-building atmosphere as by any single course, is to introduce students and scholars in one area to the tools, results, and techniques of another.

Courses typically meet for about 90 minutes each day, Monday through Friday. Weekend “bootcamp” tutorials are sometimes offered the weekend before the main week begins.

Call for Course Proposals

The Department of Philosophy at Kansas State University is happy to invite course proposals for the 2027 North American Summer School in Logic, Language, and Information, to be held June 21–25, 2027, at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.

Courses should aim to be accessible to the intended audience (advanced undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars in mathematics, computer science, philosophy, cognitive science, linguistics, and cognate fields). Courses addressing interdisciplinary topics are particularly encouraged, but courses focusing on single topic areas that would be accessible to students and scholars working in other fields are permissible as well.

For a sense of course content and format, it may help to look through recent iterations of NASSLLI — see the Past NASSLLI section below.

Proposal Requirements

Proposals are submitted via OpenReview (submission link to be announced). New profiles created without an institutional email will go through a moderation process that can take up to two weeks; profiles created with an institutional email are activated automatically.

Funding

Depending on available funding, we will be able to defray travel costs for instructors. We plan to offer accommodation for up to two instructors per course, and, contingent on overall funding, we may be able to partially reimburse additional travel expenses for some instructors. Availability of reimbursement depends on overall funding, which is still uncertain — so we strongly encourage instructors to fund their own travel and accommodation if feasible, which lets us direct more of our funding toward student scholarships and reimbursement for instructors without other funding sources.

We are pleased to be able to waive registration fees for Kansas educators, including K-12 and college educators. If you are a local educator who would like to attend, please contact us (see Contact) and include “NASSLLI KS Educator” in the subject line, and we will be happy to work with you on waiving your registration fees.

All the best,
Eileen Nutting (Program Committee Chair)
Nathan Kellen (Organizing Committee Chair)

After NASSLLI: SEP 2027

Immediately following NASSLLI, Kansas State will also host the Society for Exact Philosophy's 2027 annual meeting, Saturday, June 26 through Monday, June 28, 2027, in the same city — no extra travel required if you're already here. The SEP is an international scholarly association, founded in 1970, for researchers who believe rigorous methods have a place in philosophical investigation. Its membership already spans linguistics, cognitive science, logic and mathematics, and computer science alongside philosophy, so a lot of NASSLLI's crowd will feel at home. The paper submission deadline is February 21, 2027. Keynote speakers: Cailin O'Connor (UC Irvine), Paul Bartha (University of British Columbia), and Teresa Kouri Kissel (Old Dominion University).
